Main Street Plainfield Beautifies Downtown with New Flower Pots, Honoring the Legacy of Virginia Schooler
PLAINFIELD, IN — Main Street Plainfield is proud to announce the installation of new decorative flower pots along Main Street, made possible through the generous support of the Harold Schooler and Virginia Schooler Morrison Fund, administered by the Hendricks County Community Foundation (HCCF).
This beautification initiative includes the addition of 12 hanging baskets and brackets, installed by the Town of Plainfield’s Department of Public Works, who will also maintain and water them throughout the season. These installations represent the first phase of a multi-year plan to line Main Street with vibrant floral displays that reflect the charm and character of Plainfield.
The project aligns with Main Street Plainfield’s mission of developing and promoting a healthy and prosperous downtown within the context of cultural and historic preservation.
The gift supporting this project stems from a deep legacy of love and gratitude for the community. Virginia Schooler Morrison and her husband, Harold Schooler, owned and operated Plainfield Florist on Vine Street for 32 years. Known for her warmth, dedication, and unwavering affection for Plainfield, Virginia believed in giving back to the community that helped her business thrive.
Before her passing in January 2001, Virginia instructed her sister, Mrs. Lyle Clift, to ensure a portion of her estate would be donated to support beautification efforts in Plainfield. This heartfelt gesture led to the creation of the Harold Schooler and Virginia Schooler Morrison Fund, established with a $100,000 gift, which is today managed by HCCF. The fund was established to provide ongoing support for the enhancement and beautification of Plainfield, now and forever.
“Virginia and Harold cared deeply about Plainfield and its future,” said William A. Rhodehamel, President and CEO of Hendricks County Community Foundation. “Through their generosity, this fund will continue to bring beauty to Main Street and a sense of pride to everyone who calls Plainfield home.”
“When you stop at the light at Main and Center and admire the lovely flowers, you’ll know Virginia’s legacy is still blooming in Plainfield,” said DeeDee Leonard, Main Street Plainfield’s Executive Director.
This first round of floral enhancements is just the beginning. Over the next few years, Main Street Plainfield plans to continue expanding the flower pots along Main Street in a phased approach, adding color and vibrancy to downtown while honoring the generosity of one of its most passionate citizens.
